Administration in Samalkha

For the economic growth of any country while maintaining the laws of the land, a public administration system should prevail. Various government departments engage and work in harmony, to help the inhabitants of the place with proper law and order, infrastructures and emergency facilities. Haryana is a large state to be managed administratively by any single committee. For the ease of administration, the entire state has been divided into 21 districts with a District Magistrate or Deputy Commissioner at the helm of each one of them. Samalkha town comes under the administrative purview of the Panipat district. The District Magistrate is the chief executive officer who is looking after all security measures and also exercises judicial powers during any criminal proceedings under the district. Under him works the Sub-Divisional Officers, Tehsildars and Naib-Tehsildars. The Panipat district is administratively divided into two divisions, Panipat and Samalkha which are again divided into six tehsils/ blocks namely, Panipat, Samalkha, Israna, Bapoli, Saloni Khurd and Madlauda. Each tehsil has got its own Tehsildar and Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO).

Civil Administration of Samalkha

Administration in SamalkhaSamalkha being a separate tehsil under Panipat and has its own BDPO and Tehsildar at its helm. The tehsildar is a Grade II officer of the state government who supervises and looks after the revenue administration of the Samalkha town. He is also responsible for any development plan or activity like soil conservation, sanitation works, construction of roads and pavements, drainage system and reclamation of public property. The BDPO is a parallel official who falls under the Panchayati Raj system. The Samalkha tehsil comprises of the main town along with 84 neighbouring villages with separate panchayats. All these rural Panchayats fall under the administration of BDPO Samalkha. Some of the important panchayats of this region are, Jaurasi, Dhadpurm Manana, Bapoli, Kiwana, JeetGarh, Pattikalyana, Shaharmalpur, Beholi, Tajpur, Naraina, Chulkana, Karhans, Beholi, Garhi Chaju, Taharpur, Bapoli, Dehra, Kurar, Mahawati, Dikadala, Hathwala and Atta.

Municipal Committee Samalkha

The council was constituted on 1st September, 1981 to look after the industrial development of the Samalkha town, especially in foundry works. With the passage of time the municipality has grown while taking in more and more responsibilities. The head of this Council is the President followed by the Vice-President and 13 Counsellors. Each counsellor is looking after each of the 13 wards present in Samalkha. As of budget 2014-15, total amount Rs 584.60 lacs have been granted to the MC Fund for the development of the town.

The Municipal Council is administratively divided into four departments which are;
(1) General Administration Department
(2) Sanitary Department
(3) Public Works Department
(4) Lamp Lighters Department

This Council along with the help of the district magistrate office has helped Samalkha town with supply of safe drinking water, proper sanitation system, concrete roads and pavements and have also kept the roads clean from daily garbage disposal. The total area under municipal purview is 4.48 square kms. The Council arranges for free medical health camps and various poverty eradication programs for the residents who are below poverty line (BPL). Few primary education schools are also been set up under state government schemes. In overall, Samalkha Municipal Council works with one mission of making the life of the local population delightful.

Police Department in Samalkha

Police department of Samalkha is under the Panipat Police Station of Rohtak division. The entire town and adjacent villages are under the supervision of DSP Samalkha, who is responsible for maintenance of law and order in this region.
